The mission of the Travel Town Museum Foundation is to educate the public about railroad history as it pertains to the development of the Southwest Region of the United States, particularly the Los Angeles area. They support the restoration, operation and interpretation of the historic railroad equipment at the City-operated Travel Town Museum in Griffith Park.
Group instructional sessions are available by appointment and designed for groups of less than 30. These sessions are led by volunteer docents or staff members and are tailored to the age and size of the group. Older students can take a tour of the museum and learn about how steam locomotives work; younger children spend time in the “Holden’s Corner” Learning Area singing railroad songs and listening to train stories. School visits are free, and reservations can be made with the City of Los Angeles Travel Town office at (323) 662-5874, between 10AM and 2PM.
