CalArts Community Partnership Programs

The CalArts Community Arts Partnership (CAP) offers free, after-school youth programming in music, theater, animation, film, photography and digital media in locations around Los Angeles. Program descriptions and schedule of classes are available here. Includes the Media Mashup Program, a 20-week program for high school youth to explore specific social issues through a variety of artistic media, including printmaking, stop-motion animation and digital video production at Self Help Graphics in Boyle Heights.

Eligibility Requirements:

Resident of L.A. County
Students in 5th-12th grade
Some programs have more specific age requirements (i.e. high school youth)
APPLY: Fill out the online application form. If you are applying for multiple programs, you only need to fill out the form once; just make sure to specify all programs you are interested in. The deadline to complete the form is October 4th, however admission for several programs is on a first-come, first-served basis, so you should try to complete the form as soon as possible.

HIRE LA’s Youth / Summer Youth Employment Program

Deadline: Rolling

HIRE LA’s Youth is a program endorsed by Mayor Eric Garcetti designed to put L.A. youth to work and put them on the path to becoming lifetime earners. Once enrolled, youth can sign up for Job Skills Workshops, held all around the city, and earn their Work Readiness Certificate to make them more competitive for a job. HIRE LA’s Youth also administers the Summer Youth Employment Program.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • 14-24 years old
  • Resident of the City of Los Angeles
  • Family meets low-income criteria or receives public assistance; OR foster youth; OR homeless
  • Right to work in the U.S.
