Every year, the Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project (CLYLP) brings 120 high school students from around California to the Sacramento Leadership Conference, a week-long, intensive leadership program. Conference participants are housed on a university campus, and attend workshops and seminars to enhance leadership skills, academic preparedness, self-esteem and cultural awareness, and provide an understanding of state and local government. Participants also have the opportunity to meet with college recruiters and participate in mock hearings with legislators at the State Capitol. Housing, meals, program materials and transportation to and from the conference are provided at no cost to the participants or their families.
- Currently enrolled sophomore or junior at a high school in California
- Have not previously attended Sacramento Leadership Conference as a participant
- Must be able to attend the entire, week-long program
APPLY: Applications for the 2016 Conference will be available starting in 2016 on the CLYLP website. Application requirements include background information, extracurricular activities, official high school transcript, two letters of recommendation and three essay questions. Essays written in Spanish are accepted.
